DREW HATHAWAY

Drew graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003. While studying, he was a member of the varsity swim team at Chapel Hill.  Drew earned his J.D. from Campbell University School of Law in 2007. While at Campbell, Drew was a member of the National Moot Court Team, inducted into the Order of Old Kivett and was an editor for the Campbell Law Observer.

Drew spent the first eight years of his career doing defense work and since 2010, he had a primary focus on medical malpractice defense at the nationally recognized firm of Batten Lee in Raleigh, North Carolina.  As a defense attorney, Drew represented some of the largest nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the world, one of the largest private hospital companies in the United States, numerous North and South Carolina Hospitals, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, anesthesiologists, and numerous other health care providers.

During his time defending health care providers, Drew received numerous honors as a trial attorney including introduction into the North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars, a peer selection for the top 2.5% of North Carolina Lawyers under the age of 40.

Drew has successfully tried numerous cases to a jury verdict and has won many arbitrations, mediations and pre-trial motion hearings. Drew has had extensive experience with large and complex medical malpractice claims including nursing home abuse and negligence, birth injury, surgical devices, emergency room negligence, paralysis, permanent injury and wrongful death.

After gathering this extensive expertise, Drew now has the opportunity to represent individuals and their loved ones rather than insurance companies.  His experience with the defense makes him uniquely qualified to represent those who have been wronged during difficult times.  Drew will use his substantial insight and experience to serve his clients to the best of his abilities.

Drew is married with one year old twins and a three year old son.  Drew’s wife, Dr. Catherine Hathaway, is a hospitalist who is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, and nephrology.  Drew enjoys gourmet cooking and watching college athletics with his family.  Since 2007, Drew has been on the board of directors for Vidas De Esperanza.  Vidas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides free health care and educational opportunities to the poor in North Carolina and abroad.  Drew is dedicated to guiding those in need who otherwise may not have a voice.
